New Build Concrete Floor Preparation
Siddons Floor Preparation Ltd can ensure new build concrete floors are correctly cleaned, cleared, and prepared for all types of applied flooring systems throughout residential developments, as well as commercial and industrial sites.
Utilising the latest in diamond-grinding equipment, we will completely remove the concrete laitance to enable the chosen flooring solution to be successfully bonded to the aggregate on which it is laid.
Why Does Laitance Need To Be Removed?
As water begins to rise through the concrete floor during the drying process, elements of powdery and brittle concrete fibres may form on the surface. This can also be produced through the concrete being “overworked” during the time of pour, flawed methods of installation as well as continuous site traffic.
This “laitance” offers poor adhesion to both the flooring system and the main aggregate within the concrete mix itself. Therefore, it is vital that all laitance is removed and that the concrete floor is planed and levelled to the strictest tolerances.
Failure to remove all surface laitance could result in the complete failure of the applied flooring system, especially in areas of heavy foot traffic.
At Siddons Floor Preparation Ltd, our mechanical planing service will comprehensively remove all laitance and other forms of protruding surface contaminants. The additional use of vacuum systems and noise suppression technology reduces the amount of site disruption, with multiple floor grinding machines available to cover larger surface areas within a shorter period of time.
Creating A Surface Key
Once the concrete floor has been suitably cleared and levelled, a rough surface key will be applied to create a strong level of adhesion between the main concrete aggregate and the applied flooring system.
The combination of laitance removal and surface keying helps guarantee that the chosen flooring system can be competently installed whilst maximising the durability and lifespan of the product.
